- Went to see Me and My Girl at the Shaw festival this weekend. It was...fine. I mean, it was beautifully designed, the choreography was very good, the set and costume design were really excellent, the tunes were catchy,  the leads were very good (the female lead had perhaps the worst mock-ney accent ever, but that may have been intentional)  and it was fun.  But the tickets were $102. For a Sunday matinee. For seats 20 rows up. In Niagara-on-the-Lake.  For that money, I expected Stephen Fry (who updated book on this one in the mid '80s) to show up at my house afterward and help with the dishes.  He failed to do so.

-  CAN-CON! - Have you been watching The Handmaid's Tale?  I have and it's great. (Great in the sense that it is very well done.  Not great in the sense that it's cheery. It's whatever the complete opposite of cheery is.)

- The book is fantastic, too.  Also not cheery, but worth reading.

- The movie was terrible.  Don't even.

- Have you seen Wonder Woman?  I have not (yet.)  I have been put off by all the glowing reviews.  DC movies tend to be terrible (Lego Batman being the obvious exception, because that was AWESOME), but everyone is singing the life-changing praises of this one. I remain skeptical, but would like to hear opinions if you got 'em.

- The Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt remains the best thing not-quite on TV.

- Trump hasn't done anything noticeably stupid in hours now.  It makes me kind of nervous.

Or, what I did on my Xmas vacation....

Rogue One.   It was fine. Not great, not brilliant, far from terrible. The battle scenes were terrific.I liked it better than The Force Awakens.  A lot of loose ends got tied together. I definitely would recommend it.

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (Netflix) - Once I got over the fact that it was JUST BARELY Dirk Gently and his holistic detective agency, I enjoyed it.  That hobbit is good in it. The 12 year old who plays Dirk is good too, but not...Dirk.  But I mostly enjoyed it.  I think.

Gabriel Iglesias: Aloha Fluffy
: We watched this by accident and laughed and laughed. Definitely recommend it.

Spectre is terrible.  Boring and terrible.  No wonder Daniel Craig keeps badmouthing it.

Saw the preview for Leonardo D's upcoming movie, The Revenant.  The trailer looks amazing.  But then again, the trailer for Spectre looked pretty good, and we all know how that turned out.

The weather was lovely here today, so we did yard work.  Lather, rinse, and repeat.

I am not looking forward to the holidays.  I don't remember the last time I did.

How about you?

Great fun!  I enjoyed the film very much.  So much so that I now want to read the book.

Poitics aside...

OMG!  AWESOME! Amazing. Fantastic!  Adored it!  Mindless, wonderful fun!

And Roxy Music!

Don't take anyone under, um, 30. 30 with a good sense of humour.

Happy 2015!

We celebrated in the now tradttional way, with lobsters and a movie, in this case, The Battle of the Five Armies.

It was awesome.  Really. It did everything it had to do, and did it well. I know people are going to hate on it, but why?  If you didn't know what you were getting after the first five films, you were obviously not paying attention. Your fault, not theirs.

For those of you who have wondered, the hot dwarf remained hot (if not undamaged).

(I don't think he can help it. Hot is as hot does, and whatnot.)

Also, have a terrific 2015!

It was...fine.  Not OMG amazing, but not anything like awful. Quite amusing in spots.

I do wonder if Zoe Seldana has any other expression.

Blue is not Karen Gillan's colour, nor is American her accent.

And I couldn't take Lee Pace seriously as a bad guy because, you know, pie.  Lots of pie.

...was thoroughly enjoyable. (If by 'enjoyable' one means two hours of sniffling and absolutely NOT weeping. At all.)

(Cuz The Winter Soldier is A THING, but not THE THING, you know?)

It was great fun!  Enjoyed it very much.  Didn't want to stab anyone (not even Scarlet J!!!)

Whoa!  Fastest 90 minutes ever.

Pony up for the IMAX 3-D if you can.  It's worth it.

Why is no one saying how great she is in Much Ado About Nothing??  "Nathan Filion blah blah Clark Gregg blah blah Reed Diamond blah blah ** -" and yeah, they're all good, but she has to carry the damned thing, and she kills it.

Also, Joss Whedon has a really nice house.

** Full disclosure - I could happily -- very happily --  spend two hours watching Alexis Denisoff watch paint dry, so suffice it to say, I think he's  fine fine fine in this..
