2014 NaBloPoMo: Tuesday Nov 11

Roasted the last of the tomatoes, hot peppers and tomatillos from the garden, added onions, bell peppers, garlic and spices, prepared and canned (okay, glass jarred) three large bottles of roasted vegetable salsa (more or less this recipe, except for the not paying too much attenion to how much of everything I use) before 11 a.m. Boo yah! I deserve a medal or a vacation or a massage or something. I will have to settle for salsa, I guess.

The internet asks, "Could you live in tiny 8 sqm (86 sq ft) flat in Paris?"

I reply, "No, no I could not."  Cool what they've done with the place, though. I admire clever design, but I think I'd like, at minimum, a chair with a back, you know? When the toilet is the most inviting piece of furniture in a home, you have to ask yourself some serious questions about form and function.

And the maids for whom those rooms wre designed:  what must their lives have been like?

Did some accidental research re: what did trick-or-treaters get at Halloween during The Depression.  Apparently, there were no trick-or-treaters back then.  Trick-or-treating the way we think of it didn't become a 'universal' North American thing until after the 1920's.  The more you know, kids.

Tomorrow, after a ten year lead-up, The Rosetta Space Craft is scheduled to land on Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.  I am torn between 'really cool' and 'collosal waste of resources.' Oh science, you are a conflicting mistress.

Couldn't live in that Parisian room full time... Maybe for a night or two. I do hope there's a flatscreen TV at the foot of that bed though. ;-)

It's France - there is just a shelf with a single book, and the single book is called "This is Not a Book." It is 1,257 pages long, and all the pages are black, except for the one in the middle that says,"It's all been lies."

That flat might be a good model for dorm living. And I'm guessing that the maids who lived in that room didn't do much but sleep there.

It's better than a cardboard box, I grant you. And as I said, clever use of a tiny space. But didn't maids have scandalously inappropriate relationships with, well, whoever, really. Or has Downton Abbey been nothing but lies?

That apartment is incredible, i could totally live there for a few months just for the experience - if it was right in the middle of Paris - but there'd have to be a way to fit a comfy chair in there. No way i was sitting on those stools the whole time. Also that bed would not compliment my slight claustrophobia so the screen would have to stay open.

For the experience, I think it would be great to try living in this cozy little nest for a while. But only if I knew all my actual junk (and lo, there is much junk) were (was? Damn you subjunctive!!) somewhere else, safe, dry, and waiting for me to come home and wallow in it. I could not pare down enough to live in just this space. As a pied-a-terre (see what I did there?) though, I think this place would be great.

God yes i'd have a storage locker somewhere with the rest of my crap in it. Its a tempting thought though to live so lightly and see what you actually really need (in my case i'm assuming my laptop, iphone and a few bars of chocolate would suffice in keeping me happy).

You couldn't really store much food could you? I don't think i recalled any storage space allocated for that unless it was under the sink. I guess Parisians don't eat? I'd probably just live off Croque Monsieur's and french pastries anyway. Hello diabetes!
